Affiliate Summit 2011 Writeup

Adam and I attended Affiliate Summit 2011 this year in Las Vegas and it was quite an experience. It was my first conference in the biz and related to internet money.

The conference itself is broken down into two main things. Sessions and the exhibit halls.

Sessions

The sessions had some cool names and I was interested to hear some. There was one entitled Facebook Open Graph. But they didn’t talk about Open Graph for the whole session! What fail. All the other talks I attended were tailored to the very new people to affiliate marketing. The one panel I went to with Jonathan Volk, John Chow, Chris Brogan, Eric Schechter, and Greg Rollett. Even though John Chow didn’t seem like he wanted to even be there heh.

All the other sessions were just so dumbed down that if I go next year, I definitely won’t pay the extra money to attend them.

Exhibit Halls

This is where the good stuff was at. All the sponsors and companies with booths rocked. It is cool to finally see some of the companies you’ve done biz with online in the past few years. Talking with the reps lets you easily bypass anything if you need to get into one too. There’s also beta programs that you can find out about too

The cheap $100 ticket to get into this is worth it as you’ll probably find some work or something.

There was a VIP party that Profit Kings threw called AffiliateBall. They had Three 6 Mafia and ytcracker performing. Three 6 isn’t my kind of music but entertaining in the least.

We did find out that there is a severe lack of programmers in the affiliate game, at least who attend conferences. Oh yes, and there were caged dead pigeons on our hotel roof.
